The short answer

Get a current, evidence-based overview of GanttFather: Gantt and Kanban planning, dependencies, critical path, collaboration, API and MCP access, pricing, and limits.

GanttFather is a browser-based Gantt and Kanban project-planning tool. Its current free tier covers one project you own, two active editors on that project, and unlimited viewers and guests. Core planning capabilities include interactive scheduling, four dependency types with lag, critical-path analysis, resources, Excel import/export, real-time collaboration, a REST API, and AI-agent access through MCP.

What problem does GanttFather solve?

GanttFather is designed for teams that need a real dependency-based schedule without adopting a large enterprise portfolio suite. The same tasks can be viewed on an interactive Gantt chart, Kanban board, and supporting project views, so a delivery lead can inspect dates while contributors work with a simpler flow view.

The product is most useful when sequencing and handoffs matter: launches, implementations, engineering releases, client delivery, construction-style plans, capstones, and cross-team programs.

Which scheduling features are included?

CapabilityCurrent GanttFather behavior
Interactive GanttDrag and resize scheduled tasks
DependenciesFS, SS, FF, and SF with lag or lead
Critical pathCalculated from the project schedule
KanbanSynchronized with the same tasks
ResourcesHuman and virtual resources with cost fields
CollaborationReal-time editing plus viewer and guest access
ExcelImport and export workflows
Public APIVersioned REST endpoints with token auth
AI agentsRemote MCP server and agent tools
Azure DevOpsReviewed Pull and Push

GanttFather does not currently provide automatic resource leveling or a dedicated baseline-overlay feature. Those limits matter for organizations that require advanced resource optimization or formal baseline variance reporting.

What is included in the free tier?

The current free capacity is one owned project with two active editor seats. Viewers and guests do not consume those editor seats. Editing a project owned by someone else does not consume one of your owned-project slots.

Paid capacity adds owned projects and active editors. Current list pricing is $5 per additional project per month or $30 per year, and $2 per additional active editor per month or $12 per year. Use the live pricing page for localized currency, tax, and current checkout terms.

The safe way to describe the model is “features available across plans; paid capacity adds projects or editors,” not an unlimited promise. API quotas, collaboration roles, project ownership, and operational limits still apply.

This snapshot uses annual list pricing where vendors publish it and avoids pretending unlike products are identical.

How do AI agents work with GanttFather?

GanttFather offers a remote Model Context Protocol server for supported AI clients and a REST API for deterministic integrations. Tokens can be scoped and permissioned; start read-only and grant writes only for a defined workflow.

An agent can use available tools to inspect and update project data, but it does not become the accountable project manager. MCP critical-path analysis currently assumes finish-to-start dependency logic, so schedules using SS, FF, or SF links need extra human review.

How does the Azure DevOps integration work?

Setup triggers the initial import from a configured Azure DevOps query or board. Later, reviewed Pull and Push are the default flows: Pull keeps conflicting local dates or statuses unless you choose Restore from Azure, while a confirmed Push can overwrite newer mapped Azure values. Pulling first is optional, and estimates are never pushed.

It is not a continuous two-way sync. Azure Predecessor/Successor links are not imported as GanttFather dependencies, and MCP does not expose integration-management tools. Read the current Azure DevOps guide before connecting a production board.

Who is GanttFather best for?

GanttFather is a strong fit for a small scheduling group with many read-only stakeholders, a team migrating from spreadsheets, or an AI-assisted workflow that needs an inspectable Gantt schedule. It is a weaker fit when mandatory requirements include automatic resource leveling, a dedicated baseline overlay, on-premises deployment, or a broad enterprise workflow ecosystem.

What is the fastest way to evaluate GanttFather?

Create one representative project, import or enter a real task set, add the dependencies that drive a milestone, invite a second editor, and share a viewer link. Then test the critical path, Excel round trip, and one API or MCP read before considering migration.

Evaluate the limitations too: model a resource conflict and a baseline-review use case so the team knows which controls remain manual.

Frequently asked questions

Is GanttFather free?

The current free tier covers one project you own, two active editors, and unlimited viewers and guests. Verify current commercial terms on the pricing page.

Does GanttFather support all four dependency types?

Yes. You can model finish-to-start, start-to-start, finish-to-finish, and start-to-finish relationships with lag or lead.

Does GanttFather have a baseline feature?

It does not currently have a dedicated baseline-overlay feature. Preserve formal approved dates in the appropriate governance record when baseline variance is required.

Does GanttFather automatically level resources?

No. It can show assignments and costs, but resource-leveling decisions remain manual.

Can viewers use GanttFather without consuming an editor seat?

Yes. The current model provides unlimited viewer and guest access; active editors are the constrained collaboration role.

Only by inspiration and name. GanttFather is a modern software product with no family or corporate affiliation to Henry Gantt.
