Which Gantt chart tool can my AI assistant edit?
GanttFather can be read and edited by AI assistants. Its MCP server at https://mcp.ganttfather.com/ gives Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor and other MCP clients 31 tools to list, create, update and link tasks, find overdue work and the critical path, and show the Gantt chart in the conversation. The assistant changes the same live plan your team sees, and its access can be read-only.
What an assistant can do in your plan
- Read: your projects, the task list and hierarchy, one task in detail, the timeline, members and resources, dependencies, a project summary, overdue tasks with their owners, and the critical path.
- Change: create, update and delete tasks; reorder and nest them; add, replace or remove dependencies; assign people and resources; add an image to a task; keep a short project note it can read next time.
- Show: an interactive Gantt chart inside the conversation, or the schedule as an image.
- Get help: draft a support email to GanttFather. The assistant writes the draft; nothing is sent.
What you can ask
- "Which tasks are overdue, and who owns them?"
- "Move the testing phase one week later. What does that push back?"
- "From this brief, create the tasks for a two-week launch, with dependencies."
- "What is on the critical path right now?"
- "Show me the Gantt chart."
How changes stay safe
- Each assistant connects with its own access, which can be read-only.
- Tools that delete or replace something are marked as destructive, so the assistant's app can ask you before running them.
- Changes land in the same plan your team uses and appear live for everyone.
- An assistant reaches only the projects its access covers.
How to connect
Add https://mcp.ganttfather.com/ as a connector or MCP server in your assistant and sign
in to GanttFather. The MCP page has the steps for each assistant, and
how an AI agent builds and maintains a Gantt chart
walks through a full planning session.
What it cannot do
- Work with baselines: GanttFather has none.
- Send email for you: the support tool only drafts one.
- Reach projects outside the access you gave it.

Frequently asked questions
What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools from another service. GanttFather runs an MCP server at https://mcp.ganttfather.com/, so an assistant that supports MCP can read and change your plan when you ask it to.
Which AI assistants can edit a GanttFather plan?
Any assistant that connects to remote MCP servers. Our MCP page has steps for Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf.
Does the AI connection cost extra?
No. No GanttFather feature is locked to a paid plan, the MCP server included. One project you own is free, with 2 editors and unlimited viewers; AI agents do not take an editor seat.
Can the assistant delete tasks?
Only if its access allows editing. Tools that delete or replace something are marked as destructive, so the assistant's app can ask you before it runs them. A read-only token lets an assistant read the plan without changing it.
Do I need to install anything?
No. You add https://mcp.ganttfather.com/ as a connector or MCP server in your assistant and sign in to GanttFather. Our MCP page has the exact steps for each assistant.
